10 Pet-Safe Trendy Houseplants

10 Pet-Safe Trendy Houseplants

Pet-parent, design lover and plant obsessed.

If this sounds like you, this article is perfect for you!

Sometimes, trendy plants that are appearing all over the designer feeds and magazines sadly do not mean they are a good choice for a house with pets. To be fair, I would take this advice with a grain of salt. Only you know your pet and how they interact with houseplants.

However, if your fur baby loves to get into mischief and explore your household greenery, then it is definitely worthwhile to choose plants that are not toxic.

Not all plants are equally toxic but thankfully there are options that are 100% pet safe and still look really good in your home.

Here are our top 10 favourite house plants that are pet safe AND satisfy interior design goals:

  1. Calathea Plant: these beauties feature big beautiful leaves and come in a variety of colours. They will bring a tropical feeling to a space any day!
  2. Spider Plant: it's way less scary than it sounds. These plants are also super easy to grow and incredibly resilient. Bonus feature, these plants are air purifiers too.
  3. African Violets: if you're looking to add some colourful plants, these are the perfect choice.
  4. Venus Flytrap: pet-friendly, low maintenance and a conversation piece too. This plant earns its keep by helping get rid of flies too!
  5. The Polka Dot Plant: featuring shades of green, white and pink, this leafy cutie is perfect for a well styled shelf or table
  6. Orchids: hello elegant and easy to maintain addition to your plant family!
  7. Chinese Money Plant: another great choice because it's a speeder grower, very easy to care for and perhaps a bringer of good luck?!
  8. Prayer Plant: related to the calathea family of plants, this is big beauty with large leaves that come in every shade of green plus claret and silver. The leaves lie flat during the day and fold upwards at night, earning the name prayer plant.
  9. Date Palm: another larger plant option and is pet safe. It's great for larger spaces and adds a lot of greenery to your home.
  10. Herbs: basil, rosemary and thyme are excellent choices. They smell good and useful for when you are cooking too!

Remember to always double check if a plant you want to add to your home is pet safe! If they aren't pet safe but you absolutely need it in your dream space, then make sure it is out of your pet's reach.

Happy plant hunting!
