Fun Ways to Spend Time Indoors with Your Pup

Fun Ways to Spend Time Indoors with Your Pup

Here are 5 easy ideas on how you can keep your pup happy when you're stuck inside this fall

When the weather is bad and you're stuck indoors...

Daily walks and playdates are awesome, but the weather doesn't always cooperate with our plans. At Barkin' HQ, it's a beautiful sunny fall day - finally! We've had a stormy weekend and long walks were just not in the cards. Even Mister Boeing was not interested is spending time in the howling wind and torrential rains (thankfully haha!).
Cozy couch cuddles are always a great way to spend time together indoors but here are a few more ideas on how you can enjoy quality time with your best boy or girl when you're stuck inside…

1. Tasty Treat Treasure Hunt

Tap into their natural foraging instincts with a treat treasure hunt! Hide small treats around the house and let your pup use their nose to find them. You can even teach them the command, "Find it!" to help them get started on their sniffs!

This activity engages their sense of smell and gives them a great mental workout.

2. Indoor Agility Course

Who says agility courses are only for the outdoors? Make an indoor version using pillows, chairs, and blankets. Guide your dog through a mini obstacle course and watch their excitement as they conquer each “challenge.”

Adding a few slow feeders or small treats along the way gives them extra incentive and keeps things interesting.

3. DIY Training Sessions

Training is a fantastic way to strengthen your bond while teaching your dog new skills. Grab a few treats, put on your Barkin' treat pouch and dedicate some time to teaching a new trick or reinforcing old ones.

Not only is training mentally stimulating for your dog, but it also boosts their confidence. Plus, the reward-based system means they'll really enjoy this activity!

4. Tug-of-War and Fetch Indoors

Don't underrate this classic: a simple game of tug-of-war or indoor fetch can be exactly what you and your pup need to break out of those rainy day blues!

Use a soft, pet-safe toy, and make sure the space is clear of anything breakable. Tug-of-war is an especially great way to let them unleash energy in a controlled, friendly way.

5. Cozy Cuddle Time

After some of these more high-energy options, simply relaxing together is the perfect way to spend downtime. Pick a cozy spot, grab a blanket, and let your pup curl up next to you. Watching a favourite show or just lounging around is a simple way for you both to relax, unwind and bond.

So go ahead, try a few of these ideas, and let the quality time begin!
